Teen Gothic

(The band's legacy on culture will not be touched upon as its importance is obvious)

I was listening to The Birthday Party and I realized something that is not particularly important and that is that I don't really get the "gothic" sound within their music as it is sometimes presented. It is definitely dark, scary and romantic but I don't think it reaches the level of being considered "Gothic Rock" as it is closer to Noise Rock, No Wave and Punk Blues. Maybe instead of "Gothic Rock" I think it is more appropriate to see it as a Deathrock album due to the punk still being present in most of the songs and its almost non-existent ethereal atmosphere. This is my personal opinion but I would like to know what you think about it and how you would present it.

Does Southern Gothic have a place in this subreddit or is it not welcome here? I checked the rules, but it didn't quite specify.

Found an old cassette of my aunts, and wow I was surprised how good they were…saying that because they changed there structure a lil-bit…..twice. wondering if anyone else gives them a listen anymore
